Hi there.
As I promised last time, this week I’ll be focusing on healing the gut.
There are many ways to heal your gut, but today I will be focusing on the use of Probiotics and Prebiotics. These foods help to promote good and friendly bacteria in your gut, thereby enhancing gut health.
Probiotics implant the gut with healthy bacteria while Prebiotics provide food for the gut-friendly bacteria.
Probiotics are found in:
- Yogurt, choose non-fat yogurt, since low-fat yogurt tends to be higher in sugar content.
- Kefir is fermented drink made from goat’s milk. It is a better source of good bacteria and contains friendly bacteria and yeast
- Sauerkraut is finely shredded cabbage; make sure you get the unpasteurized version as pasteurization kills the live bacteria.
- Other types of Probiotics are Tempeh, Kimchi, Miso, Kombucha, Pickles, Natto.
Prebiotics are found in:
- Garlic, this herb helps to prevent disease–promoting bacteria from growing.
- Onions, like garlic, is rich in inulin, a soluble fibre which feeds the friendly bacteria.
- Leeks come from the same family as onions and garlic. They also offer similar health benefits
- Other types of prebiotics are barley, oats, apples, flaxseeds, seaweed.
Next time I will be looking at other things you can do to promote healthy gut. Until then remember Healthy living is Wealthy living.
